eBay multi-variation listings, priced from each Amazon variation
Last updated 26 October 2026
A multi-variation eBay listing sells several versions of one product, such as colours, sizes or shades, under one listing, each with its own price, quantity and photo. Dropizon prices and stocks every variation from its own Amazon ASIN, builds new variation listings from an Amazon product family, and can combine products from different Amazon sellers into one listing.
Why are variation listings hard to keep priced from Amazon?
On Amazon, a product family has a parent and children, and each child is a separate product with its own ASIN, price, stock and seller. On eBay, a variation listing has one parent and many variations. Keeping the two in step means treating every eBay variation as its own Amazon product:
- The parent ASIN is never read. Asked for a parent, Amazon serves whichever child it likes, so a price read from the parent belongs to an arbitrary sibling.
- Each variation needs the right child. One wrong mapping prices a red jumper from the blue one, or a 100 ml bottle from the 500 ml.
- Stock differs per child. The large size can be gone while the small one is plentiful; the listing should stay live with only the missing child at 0.
Dropizon reads, prices, stocks and credits sales to the children, never the parent row (see multi-variation listings in the documentation).
How does Dropizon map each variation to its ASIN?
For variation listings you already have on eBay, including ones created by another tool, Dropizon works through the evidence from strongest to weakest:
- An ASIN in the variation value. Some listings use the ASIN itself as the value of a variation name; that is the seller saying which child is which, and it wins.
- An ASIN in the SKU, written plainly, encoded the way Dropizon writes custom labels, or in Dropizon's own AMZ-prefixed form.
- The variation specifics, matched against Amazon's product family for that listing.
Every mapping is checked before it is read. Where the same SKU is reused across listings and cannot be tied to one child for certain, it is left alone rather than wired to the wrong offer, and you can set the ASIN yourself in the listing drawer.
How are variation prices and stock kept right?
Each child is read on its own schedule by the Amazon price tracker and priced with the same formula as any single listing, by the eBay repricer. A variation push prefers eBay's Inventory API and falls back to the Trading API where it must.
A scheduled variation health job then runs every 10 minutes for each eBay account and corrects what a single push might have missed:
| Step | What it does |
|---|---|
| Re-zero | Children held off sale that still show stock on eBay are set back to 0. |
| Sweep | Children with a fresh in-stock reading are repriced, those priced below their Amazon cost first, then any whose price has drifted, then any short of their target quantity. |
| Restock | Children released from a hold get their price and quantity back together. |
Bulk actions such as setting a quantity apply across every variation of a listing in one pass.
Can Dropizon create a variation listing from Amazon?
Yes. When you draft a product with its variations, the extension reads Amazon's family and Dropizon builds one draft for it, eBay's way:
- Every child becomes its own SKU, one per combination of values, priced and stocked from its own reading and photographed with its own images.
- The picture dimension is judged from the photos, usually the colour, and each value gets only the photos of its own children. A photo every child shares goes on the listing, never under one value, so Red never shows Blue's picture.
- Children that cannot be sold are dropped with a reason: unavailable or unpriced on Amazon, or a duplicate of another combination.
- Names follow eBay's site: Amazon's colour name becomes Colour on eBay UK and Color on eBay US, kept inside eBay's limits.
- A collage main photo: the first photo, the one buyers see in search, can be a collage of the family's colours with the best sellers first, without added text, which eBay's picture rules do not allow.
The draft is checked again at publish (every picture value has a photo, no duplicate combination, eBay's limits) and goes to eBay through the Inventory API as one listing. Like every draft, it passes the VeRO and policy check first.
What if a family has more values than eBay allows?
An 80-shade foundation can have more shades than eBay accepts for one variation name. Splitting it into several listings would divide its sales history and ranking, so Dropizon tries to keep it whole:
- One listing, with the standard names, first.
- One listing with an overflow list. If eBay says a name has too many values, the best sellers stay under the standard name (so eBay's buyer filters still match) and the rest go under a second name such as More Shades, each list pointing to the other.
- A split, only if eBay refuses that too: part one is published and the rest stay as drafts.
Can I combine products from different Amazon sellers into one listing?
Yes, from the Drafts page. Combine listings builds one variation listing from shades or sizes that Amazon sells as separate products, often from different sellers. Add ASINs or links, search Amazon from the extension, or copy an existing eBay listing: its values are matched on Amazon by EAN first, then by brand, product and shade name. The extension reads every product in the background, review rules pick the seller for each row (Amazon first, then Prime, then the cheapest in stock), remove multipacks and duplicates, and ask you only about the rows they cannot decide. The rows you keep become one variation draft.
Create bundle does the opposite kind of job: one eBay listing made of several different Amazon products, such as a kitchen kit. Its cost is the sum of its parts, it is in stock only while every part is, and each part is read by the tracker like any other product.
Questions about multi-variation listings
Can Dropizon reprice variation listings made with another tool?
Yes, as long as each variation can be tied to its Amazon ASIN. Dropizon reads the ASIN from the variation value or the SKU where it is there, matches the rest against Amazon's product family, and leaves anything ambiguous alone for you to map rather than guessing.
What happens when one colour goes out of stock on Amazon?
Only that variation goes to quantity 0. The other colours stay on sale at their own prices, and the out of stock one comes back by itself when a later reading shows Amazon has it again.
Does each variation get its own photo?
Yes, on listings Dropizon creates. Each value of the picture dimension, usually the colour, shows only the photos of its own Amazon product, so a buyer who clicks Red never sees Blue. The main photo can be a collage of the best-selling colours.
Will Dropizon split a large family into several listings?
Only as a last resort. A family with more values than eBay allows for one name first goes up as one listing with a second list such as More Shades; the family is split only if eBay refuses that too.
Can I combine products from different Amazon sellers into one listing?
Yes. Combine listings takes ASINs or links from any sellers, or an existing eBay listing to copy, reads every product, and turns the rows you keep into one variation draft.
Are variation tools included in every plan?
Yes. Every Dropizon plan includes every feature; plans differ only in how many listings they reprice.
