Amazon product to eBay draft: turning a product page into a listing you can check and publish
In short
Turning an Amazon product into an eBay draft saves typing, but the draft is a starting point. The product facts, photos and bullet points carry over; the title must be cut to 80 characters, item specifics mapped, Amazon wording removed, the price worked out from your own formula, and the brand and photos checked against eBay's rules before you publish.
Key takeaways
- An Amazon product to eBay draft is a starting point: facts, photos and bullet points carry over, but much must be rewritten.
- eBay titles can be at most 80 characters, so rewrite rather than cut off the Amazon title.
- Remove Amazon-only wording such as Prime, badges, delivery promises and return terms.
- Price from your own formula with fees grossed up, using a price read in your buyers' country.
- eBay's drop shipping policy does not allow buying from another retailer to ship to your buyer; decide your supply first.
What happens when you turn an Amazon product into an eBay draft?
Going from an Amazon product to an eBay draft means copying the facts of a product page, its title, photos, bullet points, specifications and price, into an unpublished eBay listing that you then check and finish. Done by hand it takes a while per product. A tool can do the copying in seconds, from one product page or from a list of ASINs (Amazon's product codes). Either way, the result is a draft, not a finished listing: Amazon pages are written for Amazon, and several parts need changing before they suit eBay and its rules.
This guide covers what carries over well, what to rewrite, how to price the draft, and the checks to run before you publish on eBay.co.uk or eBay.com.
First: the rule on where your stock comes from
Creating a listing from a product page is a listing task. Filling the order is a separate question, and eBay is clear about it. eBay's drop shipping policy says fulfilling orders directly from a wholesale supplier is allowed, but listing an item on eBay and then buying it from another retailer or marketplace that ships directly to your buyer is not allowed. Read it on eBay UK or eBay US. Decide how you will supply each item before you publish its draft. Whatever your supply, you are responsible for delivery within the time in the listing and for the buyer's satisfaction.
What carries over well from an Amazon page?
- Product facts: dimensions, weight, materials, capacity, model number and what is in the box. These are the most useful part, if they are correct.
- Photos: clear images of new products, often on a white background.
- Bullet points: a quick list of features you can turn into a description.
- Brand and identifiers: the brand name and product codes such as the EAN or UPC, where shown, which help with eBay's item specifics.
- The ASIN: worth keeping in your records or as part of the SKU, so each listing stays linked to its source product.
What has to change for eBay?
The title
Amazon titles are often long. An eBay listing title can be at most 80 characters, so the draft title has to be rewritten, not just cut off. Lead with what the item is, then brand if genuine, model and the key attribute such as size or colour. See how to write eBay titles within 80 characters.
Category and item specifics
Amazon's categories do not map one to one onto eBay's. Choose the eBay category buyers browse, then fill in the item specifics it asks for. eBay advises filling in specifics such as make, model, size, colour and style, and lists listing completeness among its Best Match factors. Map the Amazon specifications to eBay's fields, using eBay's suggested values where they fit. Our guide to eBay item specifics covers the fields buyers filter by.
Amazon-specific wording
Remove anything that only makes sense on Amazon: references to Prime, Amazon badges, "Amazon's Choice", Amazon delivery promises, Amazon return terms, "see more from this brand" lines, and questions and answers copied from the page. They are not true of your eBay listing and can confuse or mislead buyers.
The description
Turn the bullet points into a short description that says what the item is, what is included, the size, compatibility and care. Remove marketing claims you cannot support, such as certifications or health benefits. Text and photos are created by someone; make sure you have the right to use what you publish.
Photos
Check every photo against eBay's picture policy. Photos must be at least 500 pixels on the longest side, and added borders, added text, artwork or marketing material and watermarks of any kind are not allowed. Many retail product images include text call-outs or badges; drop those images. Stock photos are not allowed for used, damaged or defective items. See eBay's picture policy.
How should you price the draft?
The Amazon price is your cost, not your eBay price. The eBay price has to cover that cost, any delivery charge, eBay's fees, any ad rate and your profit, with the fees grossed up because eBay charges them on the sale amount.
Example, with hypothetical numbers: suppose the Amazon price is £15.99 with free delivery, you use a hypothetical total fee and ad rate of 15% of the sale price for the arithmetic, and you want £3 profit. The price is (£15.99 + £3) divided by 0.85, which is £22.34. Check: 15% of £22.34 is £3.35, and £22.34 minus £3.35 minus £15.99 is £3.00. Use your real fee rates from eBay's current fee pages, and see our guide to the break-even price on eBay.
Read the price at a delivery address in your buyers' country, in the right currency. Amazon localises price, stock and delivery to the delivery location, so a price read for the wrong country is not your cost.
How do sizes, colours and other variations come across?
Many Amazon products come in several sizes, colours or pack sizes, and each option usually has its own ASIN with its own price and stock. On eBay you can list them as one multi-variation listing or as separate listings.
- One multi-variation listing keeps all options together, so buyers choose a size or colour on one page. Each variation should keep its own price, quantity and link to its own ASIN, because one colour can be cheaper or out of stock while another is not.
- Separate listings are simpler to manage and price, and can suit options that differ a lot, such as a single item and a multipack.
Whichever you choose, check that every variation's photos show that option, that the variation names match eBay's values for the category (for example the size labels buyers filter by), and that the price of each one comes from its own cost. A single price for all options either loses money on the dear ones or overprices the cheap ones.
Condition
A product page can show new, used and renewed offers side by side. Your draft must use the condition you will actually sell. If you list as new, your cost must be the new price, and the photos can show the new product. If the only offers are used, a new-condition listing is not something you can supply, and the draft should wait.
Delivery time
Note the delivery estimate shown for your address when you create the draft. If it is longer than the dispatch time you plan to set, either set a longer dispatch time or do not list the item. On eBay UK, a tracked parcel with no carrier scan within your dispatch time and a delivery scan after the latest estimated date counts as late.
Which products should not become eBay drafts?
- Digital products, such as Kindle editions or audiobooks, which cannot be shipped.
- Brands whose rights owners report listings under eBay's VeRO programme, unless you are sure you may sell the item.
- Prohibited or restricted items for your eBay site or category.
- Products you already list, unless you mean to have a second listing.
- Products whose delivery is too slow for the dispatch time you can promise.
- Items you cannot supply within eBay's rules.
Step by step: from product page to published listing
- Open the product page with your browser set to deliver to your buyers' country.
- Create the draft, by hand or with a tool, and note the ASIN against it.
- Rewrite the title to 80 characters or fewer.
- Choose the eBay category and fill in every item specific you can verify.
- Rewrite the description and remove Amazon-specific wording.
- Keep only photos that meet eBay's picture policy.
- Set the price from your formula, with a minimum profit.
- Set postage, a dispatch time you can meet and your returns policy.
- Check the brand against VeRO and the item against eBay's restricted items rules.
- Review the whole draft as a buyer would, then publish.
Dropizon automates the copying for sellers who source from Amazon: one click on a product page, or a pasted list of ASINs, creates eBay drafts with title, images, bullet points and a price, with optional AI title and description optimisation, and brands are checked against a VeRO list before publishing. - Photos: 500 pixels or more on the longest side, no added text, borders or watermarks.
- Price: covers cost, fees, ads and your profit.
- Dispatch time and returns: ones you can honour.
- Brand and item: checked against VeRO and restrictions.
- Supply: decided, and within eBay's drop shipping policy.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Amazon product photos on eBay?
Photos are created by someone and may be protected, so make sure you have the right to use any image you publish. They must also meet eBay's picture policy: no added text, borders or watermarks, and no stock photos for used items. Your own photos avoid both problems.
Should I copy the Amazon description word for word?
No. Rewrite it in your own words from the product facts, and remove Amazon-specific wording and claims you cannot support. A shorter, accurate description that matches your item specifics works better on eBay.
How do I keep an eBay draft linked to its Amazon product?
Record the ASIN with the listing, for example in your SKU or in your own records. That lets you check price and stock against the right product later. A tool that keeps the link for you saves mistakes when you have many listings.
Can I make eBay drafts from a list of ASINs?
Yes, some tools accept a pasted list of ASINs and create a draft for each one. Treat the batch as drafts: check the first few in full, then check the uncertain fields on the rest before publishing. Remember eBay's monthly selling limits when you publish in bulk.
